Social Media Image Size

SOCIAL MEDIA IMAGE SIZE GUIDE

Are you always stressing about what images and sizes to use across your social media platforms?

There’s no doubt that using images and photos within your social media content helps with your engagement and reach and not forgetting helping you to build your brand and social media presence.

However are you using the right sized images for each social media platform?

Here is my guide to the what sizes you should be using across each platform.

PROFILE PHOTOS – These should be a square.

Yes the profile photo appears as a circle on all of your profiles, however here are some things to avoid on your profile photo:

* Logo

* Wording

* Borders

Think of it as a square peg doesn’t fit in a round hole.

FACEBOOK

Images used on Facebook need to either be square (1080 x 1080 pixels) or landscape (1200 x 630 pixels)

Cover banners can be a pain on Facebook as they can appear to look different on various devices. It will look perfect on your mobile and then access Facebook through your tablet or computer and it’s moved or some of the banner is cut off.

Most people view social media especially Facebook via their mobiles so my top tip is to upload your cover banner on your mobile and make sure it fits there first.

You can then make the right adjustments to ensure it looks and fits on all the other devices. (Patients is needed here)

The recommended size is 830 x 312 pixels.

Don’t forget to build your brand and add your logo to both your photos and cover banners. Adding a strap line about what you do or how you can help others wouldn’t hurt either.

Think of your social media Banners as your billboard, 3 seconds to show others what you do and how you can help them. Advertise your offers, products and services and change your Banner regularly, once a month is perfect.

INSTAGRAM

Our Instagram feed shows all images in a square format so these are the best sizes for Instagram. (1080 x 1080 pixels)

Again don’t forget to add your logo and branded colours, continue to build your brand.

Instagram stories are portrait (1080 x 1920 pixels) you can upload a square photo to stories as the background will be filled in for you to give you the right size.

LINKEDIN

Cover banners on LinkedIn are a different size to Facebook. The sizing will need to be adjusted to suit. (1400 x 425 pixels)

Photos on Linkedin can either be square just like Facebook and Instagram, or landscape (1200 x 630 pixels) however don’t feel that you need to use images all the time for LinkedIn as text only posts can gain more engagement.

TWITTER

Cover banners for Twitter again are also a completely different size to the other platforms (1500 x 500 pixels)

If you are adding images to your Tweets they should be no larger than 1024 x 512 pixels or a minimum of 440 x 220 pixels.

This may all seem very confusing never mind time consuming but don’t worry there are some great tools out there to help you create the right size images and banners.

I use Canva and they provide all the templates that you need to create those amazing images that will help your brand and you stand out.
